As a part of its activities to promote and safeguard the intangible cultural heritage of Cyprus, the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO organises a summer workshop for artists and creators, from the 3rd until the 6th of September in Lefkara.

With the title: “Lefkara Laces: Ways and Variations - seeking the revival, recreation and transformation of cultural heritage items”, the programme concerns students and graduates of fine and applied arts (painting, sculpting, engraving, photography, interior design, fashion design, textile design, graphic design, illustration, jewellery design, ceramics, stage design and theatre costume design and animation), and offers the chance of a four-day accommodation and cooperation with the lace-makers of the  Association of Production and Promotion of Lefkara Laces.

The aim of this programme is to give the opportunity to creators and artists to meet, interact and learn how to create laces with representatives of the Lefkara community and also create a set of original works that reflects and uses elements of the art of Lefkara Laces (material, designs, techniques), contributing in the preservation of the tradition and also the dissemination and the transformation of the art in a contemporary artistic and cultural possession. The works of art created by the participants will be exhibited during the European Heritage Days (October 2015).

The programme of the Workshop includes individual and group lessons, lectures/presentations, tours in religious, cultural and commercial sites/buildings, including the Local Ethnological Museum of Traditional Embroidery and Silversmith-work.

Participation in the workshop is free of charge (accommodation and training). The participants will need to cover the expenses of the creation of their original works.
