The
promotion and protection of cultural diversity www.unesco.org/cultur/diversity
that is the variety of ways in which the cultural identity
of a nation or a social group is expressed, is one of
UNESCO top priorities.
The conceptual context of Cultural Diversity was determined during the 31st UNESCO General Conference in Paris in 2001, when the member-states adopted the World Declaration on Cultural Diversity.
The Declaration provides a tool to safeguard the diversity of human culture from the danger of cultural standardization which appeared after the absolute domination of globalization. The text sets the foundations of the new ethics promoted by UNESCO in the 21st centrury with the objective to achieve a human dimension to globalization. For more information, please contact:
Having as a foundation the Declaration's text, UNESCO is currently in the process of consultation and dialogue with member-states and the European Union for the preparation of the Convention on the Protection of the Diversity of Cultural Contents and Aritstic Expressions. Cyprus is participating in the process via the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture. |
