Education For Sustainable Development

Education for sustainable development is a very important area of the field of Education for UNESCO. It allows to every human being to acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and values in order to create a sustainable future, without compromising future generations.

Key sustainable development issues, such as climate change, disaster risk reduction, biodiversity, poverty reduction, and sustainable consumption, are included in education for sustainable development. UNESCO also encourages the participation and the empowerment of the learners to change their behaviour and take action for sustainable development.

The promotion of Education for Sustainable Development is made through the publication of good practices as well as establishing the decade for Sustainable Development (2005-2014).  UNESCO also rewards individuals, institutions, organisations or other entities engaged in education for sustainable development activities.
